Kazakhstan Men’s Hockey Team Makes History with 5-0 Win Over Japan

The Kazakhstan men’s national hockey team made history once again at the 2025 Asian Winter Games, delivering a stunning performance that secured them the gold medal in the men’s hockey tournament.

On Friday, in the cold rinks of Harbin, Kazakhstan defeated Japan with a decisive 5-0 victory. 

From the very start, the Kazakh team showed their dominance on the ice. Anton Buyalsky set the tone by opening the scoring in the 18th minute. As the game progressed, Kazakhstan continued to build on their lead. In the second period, Dmitry Breus and Roman Starchenko each scored, strengthening their team's advantage. Kirill Panyukov dazzled fans by scoring twice in quick succession during the 43rd and 45th minutes, with his second goal coming during a power play. Goalie Andrey Shutov delivered a flawless performance, blocking all 13 shots from Japan and ensuring a clean sheet.

The victory in Harbin marked a historical victory for Central Asia’s largest country. The team won all eight matches in regulation time with an impressive total score of 73:4. This victory crowned them as five-time champions of the Asian Winter Games. Additionally, they have two silver medals to their name.

Meanwhile, the Kazakhstan women's hockey team also showcased remarkable talent, securing a silver medal with a 3-0 victory over South Korea.
