Minister of Defense of the Azerbaijan Republic, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov met with Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa in Manama December 27th.

The sides discussed the state of military and political affairs in the region, prospects of military cooperation, as well as other issues in the field of defense, Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry reported.

Following the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Bahrain in 1996, a number of mutual visits to each country by senior level defense officials have occurred. During Colonel General Hasanov's visit to Bahrain in 2014, the two countries signed a joint military cooperation pact to bolster defense ties.
